Classy, Beautiful Watch By B. Krause
I was once a member of the non-watch camp: a young man who argued over the relevance of watches in an age where the time is so easily attained from other common, equally accessible devices on oneself. A watch seemed an archaic, dated piece of technology. Plus, when a watch band suddenly gets a hold of one of your arm hairs, it can hurt like a mother.
Well, one day, a primal urge was awakened in me, and I decided I'd like to leave camp and see what all the hubbub was about. I don't know the first thing about watches. I just knew I wanted something durable, waterproof and minimal in design. Enter the Townsman from Fossil.
This watch is a great first watch. It comes in a few different color metals, but it's safe to say the "smoke" color is stunning. Think gun metal, accented with a dial in a very dark, rich, satin navy blue. It's one dapper gentleman of a timepiece. The steel band feels very sturdy and is easily adjustable for a custom fit on your wrist. I popped out a couple links in just a few minutes at home, and it feels like it's tailored for me now. The dial is simple and understated. No numerals, just silver markers for each hour with faint ones for the minutes in between. Two smaller dials sit in the center, and they can act as timers for minutes and hours respectively. Just three controls on the right side of the watch for the timer functions and adjusting the time correctly.
Like I said, I'm not a watch enthusiast, but this watch has definitely put a big grin on my face. It looks fantastic in almost any setting. It leans more on the dressy side, but it totally passes for a casual piece with an edge of serious class. Love the 11-year warranty, too. That's a classy move on Fossil's part.
I've had the watch for several months now and aside from a few light scratches (my own damn fault), it's holding up splendidly. It's a very tough watch and is considerably heavy. If you're not used to heavier steel bands, you might want to check this one out in a store first. I was surprised by the size, but then again, I'm entirely new to the world of watches! You get used to it real quick. It's a manly accessory that really bumps my confidence up a few notches when I'm wearing a great suit or a nice button-down with it.
As for switching teams, I like this new camp. But be prepared: I get strangers asking me for the time everyday.

I bought this for my grandsons birthday. He loves it. Well made. I think it's a quality watch that will last him for awhile.
